Despite the picky measurements, this stuff is totally worth it! Anyone who has ever had tacos at my place has raved about this seasoning. I think it’s the smoked paprika that really sets it apart from the seasoning packets, so do not skip this ingredient! And, no, sweet paprika is not a suitable replacement.
What I have skipped in the past is the oregano, and I didn’t notice any real difference in taste. So, the oregano is optional here.
Also, the full batch recipe makes a ton of seasoning, so I’ve included three versions of the recipe: the full batch, a half batch, and a quarter batch.
If stored in an airtight container, this seasoning will last indefinitely. I’ve stored mine for a year+ without issue.
Fun Fact: According to ChatGPT, there are a total of 54 tablespoons worth of ingredients in the full recipe. That means if you use 3 tablespoons of seasoning per 1 pound of ground beef, you can make approximately 18 batches of tacos with this recipe.

- 1 1/4 tsp oregano Mexican if available

- Alternatively, measure all of the ingredients into the airtight container you will be storing your taco seasoning in, and shake until well combined.
To Use
- Brown your ground beef over medium-high. Once your meat is browned, drain. With the heat still at medium-high, sprinkle the desired amount of seasoning over your meat (probably about 3 TBSP per pound of beef). Cook and stir for about a minute.
- Add in some water—around 3/4 cup for a pound of ground beef. Once the water boils, turn heat down to medium. Cook for an additional 3-4 minutes, stirring frequently.
